Iwan Brioc
Iwan Brioc is a multifaceted professional devoted to exploring consciousness and human connection through pioneering approaches.
As a social innovator, mindfulness teacher, and theatre director, he developed Context Oriented Arts (CoArts), which integrates applied theatre, group dynamics, and mindfulness to foster profound shifts in perception and well-being.
In 2000, Iwan founded Theatr Cynefin, an organization at the forefront of immersive, multi-sensory, site-specific applied theatre. Under his leadership, Theatr Cynefin has pioneered Sensory Labyrinth Theatre (SLT), a methodology inspired by Enrique Vargas’s ‘Poetics of the Senses.’ SLT engages participants in solitary journeys through darkened labyrinths, where they encounter sensory experiences designed to dissolve conventional constructs of time, space, and self.
Iwan’s work is deeply informed by his studies with Jiddu Krishnamurti and physicist David Bohm, along with his training in film, television, social psychology, and Chi Kung. He has also served internationally as a trainer in the Theatre of the Oppressed. These diverse experiences have shaped his unique approach to theatre as a tool for transformation, aiming to shift consciousness and foster a deeper understanding of our true nature.
Through CoArts, Iwan offers online drop-in sessions, in-person workshops, and comprehensive training programs, blending mindfulness and applied theatre practices. These initiatives invite participants to explore the mystery of being alive and reconnect with their authentic selves.
Iwan’s ongoing projects include Coming to Our Senses, a creative mindfulness course informed by his background in applied and experimental theatre and his understanding of non-duality. This course is currently being piloted with NHS staff, showing promising impacts on mental health.
Additionally, Iwan is curating Four Simple Questions, a series of dialogues between scientists studying consciousness and non-duality teachers. These conversations explore themes such as identity, values, suffering, compassion, and the nature of experience, offering fresh perspectives on the human condition.
Through his work, Iwan Brioc continues to challenge conventional perceptions, encouraging individuals and communities alike to delve into the depths of consciousness and human connection.
