Liam Kurmos

Technologist and educator, Liam grew up in Gwynedd and attended Ysgol Gyfun Llangefni, where he completed his education bilingually. Eager to explore

beyond Wales, he left to study Physics and Japanese at Sussex University, spending the next decade living, studying, and traveling primarily in Japan and India. In 2005, what was intended as a brief visit home unexpectedly rekindled a deep hiraeth—a longing for home—that led him back for good.

Liam transitioned to Computer Science, completing a master’s degree and early PhD work in Computational Topology at Bangor University before moving into a career in IT. His work with Software Alliance Wales saw him placing Computer Science students into projects across the region, bridging academia and local industry. Though well aware of the economic challenges facing North Wales, he has always been moved by the strength of spirit, humility, and echoes of an ancient past that make Gwynedd unique.

Liam believes in Gwynedd’s untapped creative potential—a cultural essence both ancient and invaluable, waiting to be woven into the global narrative. In a time of tectonic political and economic shifts and a world in crisis, he sees the potential of this essence as a humble yet essential contribution to the global human story, one that may well have surprising positive impact.

He conceived Engedi 2.0 as the abstract “second voyage” of Capel Engedi, following its instrumental role in establishing Y Wladfa in Chubut, Patagonia. Weaving together high technology, art, and spirituality within a thriving community space, this new voyage aims to discover a regenerative community right here in Caernarfon.
